Welcome

I’m Carl Stephens, a Transactional Analyst in Psychotherapy in Advanced Training. This means I have completed several years of Advanced, Level 7 Masters training and I am now on the final stretch of my journey to become a Registered Psychotherapist with the UKCP.

I use Transactional Analysis, which looks at how our past experiences shape the way we think, feel and live in the here and now. By exploring our ways of being in the world, we can challenge old and harmful patterns, supporting the creation of new ways of thinking or feeling to ensure we are able to live more fully in our lives.

My background

Before I became a Psychotherapist, my background was in rugby. After a shoulder injury cut my playing career short, I transitioned to teaching P.E. However, it was through my own experience of seeking psychological support that I discovered a deep passion for helping others, in particular men, who often find it difficult to receive the support they need.

While my rugby career may have ended, I still enjoy life’s adventures – I'm an avid surfer and love exploring Cornwall’s beautiful coastal paths with my two dogs by my side.

My specialist areas

I specialise in supporting men with a variety of challenges, but my experience extends to working with women and couples as well. One of my key interests lies in supporting elite athletes, who struggle with career-ending injuries, retirement, or the diagnosis of brain injuries among many others. These experiences can be existentially difficult when our identity is so firmly held in what we do, and I’m passionate about helping others rewrite their stories and find new meaning in their lives.

I’m here to help you explore and change the patterns that might be holding you back, empowering you to create the life you truly want.
